Today I’d like to announce… Dirk was raised in a scholarly family, but become curious about the inner worlds of people with 300-word vocabularies. A former special education teacher now working in tech, he remains a lifelong learner, and has become curious in recent years about the subject of intelligence. How did it become so fraught, and why is it necessary to discuss anyway? What can IQ accurately measure and predict — and what can it not? And, as an out-of-the-box thinker, what blind spots does he see on both the political left and right?

In the 8 days the podcast has been live, it’s gotten over 300 audio downloads and 700 YouTube views! These numbers encourage me to keep going. The most popular episode by far has been Episode 3: How Jennifer Helped Her Daughter Desist. Amusingly, the only one of my YouTube videos that doesn’t show the actual interview — the only one that’s audio only — is the one that got the most “views.” All of the other videos so far show me and my guests talking. But I digress. I’m glad that so many people found this episode valuable. And it’s not surprising that this episode has been popular, since concerned parents are a large part of my current listener base. If that’s you, I know this gender stuff can be all-consuming. I encourage you to come up for air sometimes. Consider doing something kind for yourself, like listening to this episode with gentle and wise Sarah Peyton. You might also find it soothing and empowering to hear Dr. Rhoberta Shaler share her insights about dealing with difficult people. Or find validation in this delightful collegial banter with Jake Wiskerchen, LMFT as we confront some of the myths and bad habits that hold back our field from helping people grow.
